Какие-то из подобных достижений просто вызывают зависть соседей или вносятся в статистические метрики, другие поощряют денежными призами, а третьи даже включают в специальные книги рекордов – города, страны или мира.

Самое быстрорастущее дерево в мире – бамбук. Одревесневающие стебли-соломины некоторых его видов способны вымахать в длину на 70-90 см в сутки. Самые же высокие бамбуковые деревья растут, конечно, в тропиках – там они достигают высоты 35-40 м. Таких гигантов в наших широтах, конечно, не водится, но необычный комнатный бамбук вы можете вырастить и дома.

Если уж заговорили о размерных “древесных” рекордах, вот вам еще несколько:

Самые высокие деревья на планете – секвойи вечнозеленые. Рекорд в 115,2 м зафиксирован для представителя этого рода, Гипериона из США.
Самые крупные – секвойядедроны гигантские (мамонтовы деревья). Задокументированный объем Гиганта Шермана, растущего в Гигантском лесу Национального парка Секвойя в Калифорнии, 1486,9 куб.м древесины.
Самые “толстые” – мексиканские кипарисы. Их представитель, также получивший свое имя, Дерево Туле, живущее в Мексике, имеет окружность ствола порядка 36,2 м и диаметр – 11,62 м.

А самые большие семена в мире также принадлежат дереву – сейшельской пальме. Ее орехи созревают около 10 лет и обычно достигают веса 13-18 кг, а рекордсмены – и вовсе 30-45 кг.

А вы знаете, сколько могут жить деревья – лет 50, 100, 200? А вот и нет, некоторые из рекордсменов насчитывают не одну тысячу лет! Отличаются в этом смысле представители Сосновых – первое и второе места в списке принадлежат им. Срубленной в 1964 году в Неваде сосне остистой под именем Прометей было 4862 лет, а ныне живущий представитель этого же вида, сосна Мафусаил из Калифорнии, насчитывает 4852 года. Возраст же корневой системы деревьев-клонов может достигать более 10 000 лет.

Самым опасным деревом мира признана марцинелла (Hippomane mancinella), произрастающая в Центральной Америке. Исключительно ядовиты абсолютно все части растения, а особенно плоды, напоминающие невзрачные желто-зеленые яблочки. Огромные невероятно болезненные волдыри появляются на коже, даже если на нее попадет всего лишь дождевая вода, стекающая по листьям дерева! Если вы потрете глаза пальцами, испачканными соком марцинеллы, или надышитесь дымом от ее дровишек, ослепнете, а употребление плодов и вовсе может привести к летальному исходу.
